Refugees and Humanitarian Entrants

Our re-settlement worker specialises in helping recently arrived African refugees and humanitarian entrants to participate socially, culturally and economically in Australia.

SGP Settlement Services complement and follow on from services provided by Integrated Humanitarians Settlement Services (IHSS) but without suplication.

Refugees and humanitarian entrants are able to access services under SGP if those particular services are not available to them under IHSS or when their IHSS eligibility ceases.

How We Can Help . . .

Casework Services - provide settlement information on a one-to-one basis to newly arrived migrants and refugees.

Referral Services - referring clients to mainstream service providers eg. employment and education providers, financial institutions and health specialists.

Information Services - providing cultural sensitive settlement information to individuals and groups.

Group Support - providing support, mentoring and advocacy services to African community groups to increase their ability to advocate on behalf of their communities.  This includes the establishment of an African community Association and community elders councils.

Raising Community Awareness - supporting mainstream providers to organise needs and establish service delivery strategies that meet those needs.

Networking - developing relationships with settle service providers (Centacare, TRAMS, Lifeline, Spiritus, St Vincent de Paul, Mercy Family Services, Life and Career Centre, government agencies and departments, Health, Transport, employment, Polioce, Education, Centrelink, TAFE,  and Toowoomba City Council.)

We can assist you with information on real estate agents, employment, education, health systems, banking, driver's licences etc.
