Support for Dependants of Skilled Migrants

A Settlement Grants Program Caseworker, funded by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship, is available at Centacare Toowoomba specifically to provide free support and referrals to the dependants of skilled migrants.

The SGP Caseworker is a friendly and helpful point of contact with local knowledge of the region and the services available.

 

Initially you will need to:

  • Find accommodation.

  • Register with Medicare and/or take out private health insurance.

  • Enrol your children in a school, preschool or a child care centre if needed .

The SGP Caseworker can provide practical support by:

  • Suggesting employment agencies for family members looking for work.

  • Helping you find suitable accommodation.

  • Directing you to the appropriate government departments for children’s services.

Most importantly the SGP Caseworker can direct you to all those other services that families need to make them feel at home, and a valuable part of the community. eg:

  • Religious Groups

  • Libraries

  • Sporting, Social and Support Groups

  • Support Groups

  • Women's Groups
