Welcome to the Toowoomba Refugee and Migrant Support Centre!

TRAMS is a volunteer run body of Centacare, committed to supporting refugees and migrants, enabling the wider Toowoomba community to enjoy the richness that our new found diversity brings. All are welcome at TRAMS and our hospitality is not limited by race, religion, ethnic background or visa class. The smiles, handshakes and hugs shared by guests and volunteers alike pave pathways of understanding and healing on a daily basis.

TRAMS does not receive funding for our Centre based activities; however we rely on the generosity of Toowoomba’s community, not for profit sectors, grants, our much valued volunteer base and the refugees and migrants themselves.

Funding received through the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) has secured the positions of a part-time Volunteer Coordinator and Admin Assistant until June 2009.These positions are part of the Integrated Humanitarian Settlement Scheme with Spiritus as the lead agency.

TRAMS works collaboratively with other organizations involved in the resettlement of refugees and migrants in Toowoomba. Too numerous to mention all; however we network extensively with: Spiritus, St Vincent De Paul, Queensland Program of Assistance to Survivors of Torture and Trauma (QPASTT), Lifeline, Toowoomba City Council, Centalink and Refugee and Immigration Legal Service (RAILS). Local agencies involved in Refugee and Migrant Resettlement meet once a month in order to coordinate their response.

Currently housed at TRAMS is Centacare’s Settlement Grant Program (SGP) worker who provides casework and advocacy to refugees.
