Centacare Toowoomba provides relationship education in the form of Pre-Marriage Education Programs.

Centacare Toowoomba offers two pre-marriage education programs:

• Group Workshop
• FOCCUS (Facilitating Open Couple Communication, Understanding & Study)

The pre-marriage education programs are designed for couples preparing for marriage or commitment. Couples may choose either option or decide to do both. Please call to discuss the options.

In order to receive the maximum benefit from the pre-marriage programs, it is advisable that couples register and complete the course(s) at least 6 months prior to their wedding.

Group Workshops

The group workshops are run on Saturday, four times each year. The workshops are interactive – inviting couples to respond to the information presented, and complete activities to enhance such things as self-awareness, knowledge about relationships, communication skills, and understanding of each other.

Topics Discussed:

• Expectations of marriage - similarities and differences.
• Influences from the past - the importance of family and cultural patterns.
• Communication - effective ways and means.
• Conflict management - practical skills.
• Values - appreciate the differences and find compromise.
• Spirituality - its place in your relationship.

To enrol for the pre-marriage workshop, please contact the Relationship Education Coordinator on (07) 4688 3100 and check availability of places. Then, we will send you a registration/payment form to be completed and sent back prior to the workshop, to secure your booking.

FOCCUS

FOCCUS is a program that allows couples to explore their relationship on an individual, confidential basis with a facilitator.

The FOCCUS Program Involves:

• Three one-hour sessions between the couple and a facilitator.
  • Session 1: Completion of an inventory (NOT a test!)
  • Sessions 2 & 3: Feedback from the facilitator and discussion of couple responses.
• Raising questions and concerns to allow couples to further explore the potential of their relationship.
• Discussion, learning, and awareness-raising – not counselling
