The Settlement Grants Program provides a range of settlement services to members of the SGP target group in Toowoomba with an outreach service to Gatton. The program aims to assist clients to become more self-reliant and to be able to participate in Australian society as soon as practicable after arrival.
Eligible clients (as defined by Dept Immigration and Citizenship)
- Former refugees and humanitarian entrants
- Family stream migrants and dependants of skilled migrants with low English proficiency.
- Prospective marriage, provisional spouse and interdependency visa holders and their dependants with low English proficiency.
What we do
- Caseworker - Settlement information, advice, assistance and document help on a one-to-one basis.
- Referral - Clients will be referred to the appropriate main stream service providers where applicable.
- Group information sessions – Culturally sensitive settlement information provided to a larger group.
- Immigration advice – Clients are referred to a registered migration agent for advice on sponsoring family members who have been left behind.
- Community Development – Newly emerging community groups are given assistance to identify common goals and interests and to promote a sense of identity and belonging.
- Integration - New arrivals are given assistance to interact with and understand the broader Australian community.
